In 1981, Dr. Sorrells opened and began operating Manchester Veterinary Services just outside of town. He had one employee other than himself at that time and worked on both large and small animal species. The clinic quickly outgrew its original facilities, so he moved to its current location at 3269 Main Street and set up the clinic in the basement of his new home.
The clinic started to grow at its new location, adding clients and employees at a steady pace. By 1995, the clinic was a bustling mixed animal practice with six employees and needed more room to expand. Dr. Sorrells decided to move his family to a new home outside of town to allow Manchester Veterinary Services to expand to the entire building.
By 1998, the small animal aspect of the clinic had expanded so much that it required the full attention of the clinic staff, so it was decided that the large animal ambulatory service would be terminated and Dr. Jan Wimer was added on as a part-time associate veterinarian to help with the increasing small animal workload.
The clinic continued to grow as word got out about Manchester Vet Services. In 2004, Dr. Julie Baker was hired on as the first full time associate veterinarian, bringing the total to three veterinarians working alongside 12 receptionists and technicians.
Soon after hiring Dr. Baker, Dr. Sorrells decided that it was time to pass on the reins to a new owner. He wanted to continue working as a veterinarian at Manchester Vet, but desired to spend more time at home with his family and did not want the daily responsibilities of owning and managing a vet clinic.
So, in March of 2008, Dr. Baker was chosen as his successor and she purchased the clinic along with her husband, Dr. Callahan. Our entire staff worked tirelessly to ensure the transition of ownership was as seamless as possible for our clients and patients. Many folks did not even realize the clinic had changed hands. The same four veterinarians and 12 staff members as before continued to provide the same high level of service to all of their valued clients and friends.
Since 2008, we have worked hard to make the best advancements in diagnostic equipment and medicine available to our clients. We have a new, updated computer system throughout the practice, are using brand new cutting edge in-house laboratory equipment for blood and urine analysis, and we have a state of the art digital x-ray system.
